Andy Butler has admitted that when the going got tough, relegated Doncaster Rovers completely failed to get going.

The Doncaster-born defender has highlighted this year’s excruciating 17-game sequence without a win as key to their demise.

And he acknowledges that, collectively, Rovers were not strong enough to stem the tide a lot sooner.

“It’s difficult to put your finger on why it’s happened but obviously that run of 17 games without a win didn’t help,” said Butler.

“I don’t think I’ve been on a run like that in my career before.

“It wasn’t a pleasant time if I’m being totally honest.

“Winning becomes a habit and so does losing, and it did.

“It wasn’t due to a lack of effort though.

“We tried but certain things went against us. And I’m not using that as an excuse but little bits did.

“We needed to be stronger as a team to try and rectify it.”

He added: “We can’t do anything about it now and we’ve got to move on to next season.

“We know we’ve let people down. We’ve let each other down, and we’ve let the manager down.

“But let’s come back and have a good pre-season and see where it takes us.”

Meanwhile, Rovers have said that they will announce their matchday ticket prices for next season on May 20.

“This enables us to liaise further with the Supporters Board to ensure we make the best possible decisions to ticket pricing whilst protecting our season ticket holders,” said the club.

Rovers have also said that any change to the price of season tickets will also be confirmed a week today.
