Doncaster Rovers: Sean O'Driscoll '˜a very difficult man to talk to' - Terry Bramall

One of the most valuable features of Rovers' Meet The Owners events are that they allow the club's key figures to speak their minds in ways straight interviews rarely do.

An example of this came in the latest edition last week which raised chuckles and more than a few eyebrows in the audience in the Legends Club at the Keepmoat.

Owner Terry Bramall offered up a story from Sean O’Driscoll’s time as manager as part of an explanation of his and Dick Watson’s on-going approach for running the club.

Bramall said: “I think it was probably around eight or nine years ago, we were around at Dick’s house and our manager in those days was Sean O’Driscoll.

“He didn’t say much.

“He was a very difficult man to talk to.

“I love meeting with Darren Ferguson because he and I can have a chat.

“There is an element of respect both ways.

“That wasn’t quite the same with Mr O’Driscoll because he knew I know nothing about football.

“And therefore he didn’t really want to speak.

“His only question to me that night was ‘Right Terry, are you prepared to finance Doncaster Rovers into the Premier League?’

“My response was: ‘Well Sean, I think you’ll find there is much more to a football club to stay in the Premier League than just putting players on the pitch for one season’.

“Myself and Dick have spent ten years financing the development of Doncaster Rovers so that whatever level it gets to, it can stay there and have potential to go further.”
