Andy Butler has been passed fit to face his first club Scunthorpe United after missing the last three games with a groin complaint.

Cameron Stewart, who has recovered following his horrendous-looking fall against Gillingham, played for an hour of Rovers’ U21s 2-2 draw with Scunthorpe’s U21s on Wednesday night and could come into contention for a start.

Nathan Tyson, whose presence has been missed in attack, is expected to resume full training on Friday and has a slim chance of featuring against the Iron.

While goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann has returned to training ahead of schedule, although the German may not be risked this weekend.

“We’re getting some back,” said Ferguson.

“It’s important, very important. We need the bodies back.”

On Stuckmann, he said: “I think Thorsten is going to be fit.

“He’s a surprise.

“He trained today and he’s flying around everywhere so I think he’ll be okay.

“We might need to get a bit more training into him, even though he’s not missed that much.

“And with the injury being his shoulder we’ve got to be really careful so whether I risk him or not, I don’t know yet. Probably not.”

Conor Grant remains a doubt for this weekend with a rib injury.

However, after stating earlier this week that the injury was more serious than he first thought, Ferguson allayed fears that the young midfielder could be facing a lengthy spell out.

“Conor won’t be long term,” he said.

“We’re hopeful he’ll be fit for Sheffield United next week if not Saturday. There’s no point in taking risks on an injury like that because if you get another knock on it you could be out for another two or three weeks.”
