The out-of-contract goalkeeper’s name was conspicious by its absence when Rovers recently announced their retained list, which suggested a new deal might be on the table for the Slovakian.

The Star has since learned that Darren Ferguson has offered the 22-year-old an opportunity to remain at the Keepmoat Stadium.

That Ferguson wants to keep hold of Marosi would seem to suggest that new signing Ross Etheridge has been brought in as the club’s new number one goalkeeper.

Marosi is viewed very much as a back-up option.

And with transfer-listed German goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann still on the club’s books, it would seem highly unlikely that Ferguson would want - or indeed have the resources - to sign a fourth senior goalkeeper to compete with Etheridge.

That situation might change if Rovers manage to offload Stuckmann.

But, in the meantime, Marosi must decide whether to stay at a club where he has made just six appearances since joining from Wigan Athletic two years ago.

He is yet to start a game under Ferguson too, and was overlooked last season when Stuckmann was injured and then later dropped as Ferguson opted to bring in Chris Neal and Remi Matthews on loan.
