Doncaster Rovers: Opposition teams are paying us a compliment - McCann

Opposition teams are paying Doncaster Rovers a compliment by the way they are setting up against them, according to Grant McCann.

Rovers failed to find the net for a third successive game in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against League One pacesetters Portsmouth.

But Doncaster boss McCann is unconcerned by the sequence.

“Teams are giving us a lot of credit at the minute,” he said post-match.

“They’re giving us a lot of praise, they’re coming to sit back behind the ball.

“They don’t want to leave space because they know we’re quick.

“So we have to find other ways and we did today.

“We knew we would have to shoot from distance. We knew we would have to be clever in and and around the box and we were.

“I’d be worried if you [the media] were asking me why we are not creating any chances.

“But you can see the goals are going to come.

“I’ve got huge belief in this group.

“I told them after the game I don’t want to speak about it again to the group.

“I’ll not be talking about chances missed.

“We’ll go to the next game and we’ll take the next ones in the next game.”

Goalkeeper Marko Marosi will serve a one-game ban after being sent off for handling outside his area and will miss tomorrow’s Carabao Cup second round tie at home to Blackpool.

McCann revealed Paul Taylor was due to make his first start for Rovers against Pompey but took a knock in training.

James Coppinger was named on the bench despite being fully fit.

McCann said captain Tommy Rowe, who like Coppinger came on later in the game, was ‘75-80% fit and needs to be managed’.
