Ridgewell '“ who joined Rovers four years ago '“ has left to join Southampton with the club acting quickly to bring in Bailey, who has previously worked at Barnsley and Leeds United.

'Alex Bailey has come in, a really experienced analyst,' boss Grant McCann told the Free Press.

'Adam had been here three or four years. Everyone appreciates the work he's done here.

'Southampton had asked him to go for an interview and he's got the job. I'm really pleased for him, going to the Premier League.

'We needed to replace him and myself and Kirsty at the club, we spent hours and hours interviewing people and Alex was the standout.

'I knew he'd worked for Barnsley and Leeds. He'd worked for Paul Heckingbottom, a young manager who sees the game like myself.

'He's had a promotion, he knows the league inside out, so he has been great for us.'

McCann sees Bailey as an important addition to his backroom staff.

'He is very important, as are all my staff,' he said.

'There's no job bigger than anyone else's and that goes right down to the kit man.

'I told him the other day that his job is as important as mine because on a matchday everyone is expecting everything to be there for them and if it's not then the kitman gets it in his ear.

'We all muck in.'
