Doncaster Rovers: McCann frustration as players don't take their chance to impress

Grant McCann struggled to hide his frustration as Rovers failed to perform in their defeat to Blackpool in the Carabao Cup.

McCann was frustrated that those players given game time in the cup tie did not take their opportunity as Rovers slumped out of the competition.

Five changes were made from the weekend's draw with Portsmouth with only Marko Marosi's suspension-related absence an enforced switch.

John Marquis, Mallik Wilks, Andy Butler and Herbie Kane were all rested on Tuesday night.

And McCann was disappointed in the manner of the performance from their replacements and the rest of the side.

"I said to the group afterwards that if any of them were wondering why they'd not got a rest or they were looking ahead to the next game in the league at Peterborough, you have got me all wrong," he said.

"We wanted to get through in the cup and I thought I had put a team on the pitch that could do that.

"I thought Blackpool were much the better team throughout the game.

"It was an opportunity for me to see people that hadn't had much game time and had been sitting and waiting in the wings as the team as started the league well on the whole.

"I was disappointed with it.

"I didn't enjoy watching it. I was bored.

"I take the fair share of the blame for it. I'm the manager.

"But the players have got to do more than that."
