Doncaster Rovers: Matty Blair wins League One PFA Community Player of the Year award

The 30-year-old has been recognised for his sterling work in the local community with Club Doncaster Foundation.

Blair has also shone a light on mental health issues following the much publicised death of his brother Ross last year.

“It’s a very proud moment,” said Blair.

“I like to do my community work, I try to give back as much as I can and to top it off with being recognised as the League One PFA Community Player of the Year is very special.

“This club has given me so much in what has been the toughest year of my life, I always say I just try to be the best person I can be and see where it takes me.

“I’ve been at some great clubs with great community work, but the work behind the scenes that goes on at Rovers is incredible.

“There is so much work going on by staff at the club and at the Club Doncaster Foundation that it isn’t much to go down to a session and help out.

“There are so many people to thank as well on behalf of myself and my family - my team-mates and the gaffer, as well as our football secretary Mary Lally, media manager Luke Thornhill and Foundation media co-ordinator Sophie Scargill who organise all the player visits.

“The supporters and everyone at the club, whether they are at the training ground or the stadium, really, have been an absolute rock for me and my family over the past year without even realising it.

“This award is as much for them as me.”
