Doncaster Rovers: '˜I've got some big decisions to make' - Ferguson

With Richard Chaplow serving a one-match suspension for his red card at Swindon, the Scot will be forced into at least one change in personnel.

But, on the back of a run of nine games without a win, he hinted at something of a tactical re-think when speaking to the press yesterday.

“I’m going to have to make some big decisions on Saturday - and they will be made,” said Ferguson.

“Whoever’s in or out will have to deal with it.

“Players that have not been playing have to come into my reckoning because whichever way you want to wrap it up, fundamentally something’s wrong.

“There has to be, I feel, a change in certain ways, whether that be a change in formation or personnel.

“Certainly something’s not right at the moment. We’ve tried various things like playing a one and a two in midfield and a two and a one.

“We’ve not been getting hammered, fine margins have cost us, but we’re at a really pivotal stage now and I feel certain things have to change.”

Rovers have scored just three times in their last seven games, and it is that lack of attacking potency which is Ferguson’s biggest concern.

He said “You have to analyse why we’re losing games and you can break it down quite easily.

“We don’t score enough first goals in the game. We’re always going behind, which is something we need to eradicate somehow.

“The other one is, and it sounds obvious, but in both boxes we’ve been nowhere near good enough.

“Our quality in the final third has been nowhere near what’s required and the players know that.

“We need to be more aggressive attacking-wise.

“We haven’t had enough shots or attempts on goal. Our counter attacking has been really poor.

“We’ve had opportunities but our final ball, or whatever, is not getting us into a shooting position.

“I’m mindful of that. I want to make sure that we get a really attacking team on Saturday.”

Paul Keegan (dead leg) is in a race to declare himself fit, while new loan signing Riccardo Calder, Lynden Gooch and Andy Butler may come into contention for a start.

James Coppinger remains sidelined.
