Doncaster Rovers: Injury worries over new signing Ali Crawford

Grant McCann admits Ali Crawford's injury 'doesn't look good' after he was forced off during Doncaster Rovers' friendly against Sheffield United.

Crawford was withdrawn midway through the first half on Friday night - replaced by Tommy Rowe - and McCann revealed afterwards the Scottish midfielder have suffered a groin injury.

"Hopefully Ali Crawford is not too bad," McCann said.

"It's his groin.

"We'll assess him over the next few days and see how he is but it doesn't look too good.

"Hopefully Joe [Sharp, physio] can get the work into him and he'll be ok."

While concerns remain over Crawford – who joined Rovers earlier this month after leaving Hamilton – McCann is in much more positive mood in regards to the fitness of Alex Kiwomya.

The forward missed last night’s friendly with a muscle injury suffered in the midweek trip to Deeping Rangers.

But McCann believes he should be ready for the season opener at Southend United next weekend.

“Alex is getting better,” McCann said.

“We think he’ll be ok for next week which is good.

“He adds more pace to our squad and the team when he’s in it.

“He’s had a really good pre-season, Alex has.

“He had a bad time with his illness and injuries last year so I’m delighted to see it’s not too serious for him and I look forward to him hopefully having a good season.

“It’s just something with his glute, it’s tight up near his hamstring.”
