The forward signed a one-year contract at the Keepmoat on Monday, as expected following his release by Scunthorpe United at the end of the season.

While admitting it will be tough for Rovers following relegation to League Two, he is confident they can make a swift return to English football's third tier.

"There's going to be a lot of pressure on us next season because of the size and stature of the club," he said.

"But we've got to put all of it out of our minds and concentrate on what we've got to do.

"It's a difficult division but I think we've got the quality here to have a very strong chance of getting out of it quickly.

"The signings that have been made already have been very good and there was plenty of quality here already.

"Everyone was disappointed with how last season ended but it's an exciting time here with is looking to bounce straight back."

The forward spent a month on loan with Rovers earlier this year until a knee injury ended his season. He made seven appearances, scoring once and assisting four.

Boss Darren Ferguson spoke of his desire to agree a permanent deal with McSheffrey soon after his arrival on loan.

The 33-year-old has made more than 500 career appearances across each of the top four divisions in English football.

McSheffrey is Rovers' sixth signing of the summer, following Tommy Rowe, Mathieu Baudry, Joe Wright, Ross Etheridge and Matty Blair.
