The forward last night signed a one-year contract, becoming the club’s sixth signing of the summer as Rovers look to immediately bounce back following relegation to League Two.

McSheffrey’s only previous experience of the division came in stints with Chesterfield and Scunthorpe United during the 2013/14 season.

And both sides won promotion to League One at the end of that campaign.

“It’s not a division that I’ve got a lot of experience in really,” he told The Star.

“But the one year I had in League Two, I played for two clubs that won promotion at the end of it.

“It’s funny really and hopefully it’s something that will continue with this next season.”

McSheffrey insists he had no hesitation in joining Rovers despite their relegation to the bottom tier of the Football League.

Though his decision to switch to the Keepmoat sees him drop down a division following his release by Scunthorpe, the 33-year-old was sufficiently impressed during his loan spell with Rovers late last season.

“When I came in on loan my focus was to help Rovers stay up and get a permanent deal,” he said.

“Unfortunately we didn’t survive but I knew that I wanted to stay here.

“I really enjoyed my time here. I liked working with the manager and the players and playing in this team.

“At this stage of my career, it’s much more about enjoying playing football rather than worrying about the level you’re at or whether you’re closer to home.

“I’m looking forward to next season and helping us bounce back quickly.”
