Doncaster Rovers: Fringe men give Grant McCann food for thought ahead of Rochdale trip

Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann says several fringe players are in his thoughts for this weekend's trip to Rochdale after they impressed on Checkatrade Trophy duty.

McCann will be forced into at least one change with Jermaine Anderson and Ali Crawford vying to replace suspended Herbie Kane in midfield.

And he may be tempted into making further alterations following last weekend's 4-0 home defeat to Fleetwood Town.

Alfie May scored twice in Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Grimsby Town, while Ian Lawlor, Tom Anderson and Paul Taylor also enhanced their claims for a starting spot.

'The boys had a chance to stake their claim and a lot of them did that,' said McCann. 

'They're definitely asking me questions now.

'That's exactly what you want in these games.

'I thought a few of them produced some really good performances.

'Alfie could've had six or seven.

One he gets that ruthless edge he can be whatever he wants to be.

I was really pleased with him.

Ali Crawford and Jermaine Anderson controlled the game along with Herbie Kane are putting pressure one me.

Paul Taylor was the best we've seen. He looked very sharp, he's getting up to speed.

Tom Anderson put in a first class performance and Ian Lawlor, he's been champing at the bit as well.
