Doncaster Rovers: Ferguson warns there will be no easy rides towards end of season

Darren Ferguson has warned his Doncaster Rovers side that opposition teams will be ready to punish them if they do not stay switched on in their final few games this season.

As things stand, each of Rovers’ final seven opponents have something to play for – though next Tuesday’s opponents Bury could be relegated by the time they arrive at the Keepmoat – starting with relegation-threatened MK Dons this weekend.

Ferguson was disappointed with the second half performance of his side in last weekend’s goalless draw with Gillingham, particularly with the concentration levels shown.

And he says the quest for a strong finish to the season will be halted if Rovers let their standards slip again.

“This is what we’re finding at the moment,” Ferguson told the Free Press.

Bradford had a lot to play for. So did Blackpool. Gillingham were on the back of three defeats so they needed a win.

Milton Keynes don’t need any more motivation than what they’re facing.

“So we’ve spoken about making sure we keep our standards if we can.

“But certainly we’ve got to be right mentally for the game on Saturday and every one after that.

“It’ll be a tough one on Saturday because I fully expect them to throw everything at us.

“Milton Keynes are running out of games and they’ve had two really tough ones leading up to this.

“We’ve got to make sure we’re ready.

“What I saw in the first half at Gillingham was really good. We’ve just got to make sure we finish off that control with a bit better decision-making in the last third.”
