But he says he will make a move for a goalkeeper if Thorsten Stuckmann faces any length of time on the sidelines.

Stuckmann injured his shoulder in Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat to Port Vale and was due to have an X-ray on Wednesday.

Ferguson revealed that injured quartet Nathan Tyson, Andy Butler, Harry Middleton and Cameron Stewart are all likely to miss the re-arranged clash at home to Walsall next Tuesday.

Rovers have signed Sunderland forward Lynden Gooch and Stoke City midfielder Eddy Lecygne on month-long loan deals over the last seven days.

Asked if he was likely to swoop again before Monday’s deadline, Ferguson said: “I don’t think so.

“Unless one or two went out, then fine.

“But I think bringing Eddy in is a position we needed to fill, and bringing Lynden in was an obvious one.

“The board have been excellent with me in terms of getting people in.

“Obviously some have gone out - and as a manager you’ve got to work within your restraints.

“In League One I’m used to a ‘one in, one out’ way of working and you’ve got to do it wisely.

“We’ve managed to get a couple extra in that we weren’t expecting. Obviously we might have to get a goalkeeper as well.

“There’s not many League One clubs buying players and I think the loan window is only shut for a week.”

Ferguson, meanwhile, refused to blame the recent spate of injuries for his side’s poor performances against Fleetwood and Port Vale.

He said: “I think what you lose is consistency of selection.

“We’ve brought in Goochy and other people have played up front but, I think I would have to say, when you have a partnership like Tyson and Williams and one is missing it has an effect in terms of what they bring as a partnership.

“No disrespect to anyone that comes in, but they have a clear partnership.

“I’m not going to use the injuries as an excuse though, I wouldn’t do that.

“We’ve got a squad and we’ve added to the squad.

“The board have managed to help me get other players in when really the budget’s gone. They’ve been very helpful.

“But I think [on Tuesday night] we were, quite honestly, awful both on and off the ball.”
