Doncaster Rovers: Everything going into promotion push - Baldwin

Doncaster Rovers' crystal clear objective is to win promotion.

And chief executive Gavin Baldwin has insisted that everything that can be done to hit that target will be done - even at the expense of other arms of the club.

Rovers won’t field an under-21 side in the Third Development League this season, for example. The first team is taking priority.

“Our vision is still a very good Championship team,” said Baldwin.

“And therefore the funds we have available are being put into the first team and into the playing squad.

“The board have got a massive confidence in Darren Ferguson and his vision.

“We’re almost reining him back with everything else he wants to do.

“So for example, the academy, which Darren believes actively in - and the board do as well - is being asked to have a look at itself and see what it could look like in the future.

“The vision is still very much to produce homegrown players.

“However, whereas before we may have spent money on the academy, that money is now going on the first team because we will build the academy from a power of strength - and we see that power of strength being promotion.

“Relegation has focused our thinking and our resources on the first team, maybe at the expense of other things at the club.

“But we hope that the momentum that a good season has means that we can do things from a position of strength.”
