Doncaster Rovers: Don't bet on it! Darren Ferguson wary of coupon busters ahead of Crawley, Cheltenham, Notts County and Leyton Orient fixtures
Don't bet on it!
Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson is guarding against any form of complacency as his table-topping side head down the final straight.
Rovers’ next four opponents - Crawley Town, Cheltenham Town, Notts County and Leyton Orient - all find themselves in the lower reaches of League Two.
But Ferguson has warned that the league table ‘means nothing’ during the run-in.
He has told his squad to push on from Tuesday night’s important win at Cambridge United and not take anything for granted.
And he also had some bad news for anyone who likes a flutter on the football.
Ferguson said: “During this part of the season you’re not going to make money on a coupon!
“You are going to get some funny results.
“You’re going to get teams that have struggled all season pick up a couple of results and they find their confidence.
“So they’re won’t be any complacency, certainly from me to the players and hopefully from the players on the pitch.
“I think that each game will be as hard as the next one.
“Certainly Cheltenham and Notts County, our next two home games, are probably two of the form teams at the moment.
“And Crawley will be a tough game this weekend.
“It’s always been the same, we’ve got to get our job done right,” he added.
“That’s the most important thing.
“At this stage of the season when we get our job done right you probably do get the rewards for it.
“That was the thing I wasn’t happy with against Accrington. There were one or two things I didn’t like to see. But we were much more at it on Tuesday night.”
Cheltenham and Notts County backed up Ferguson’s views this week with surprise wins over promotion-chasing Carlisle United and Plymouth Argyle respectively.
Thus, Rovers head into this weekend’s games six points clear at the top.
Liam Mandeville is still sidelined with an ankle injury.
Luke McCullough will return to training on Monday.
