Dickov has been linked with a shock return to the League One outfit and is currently the bookies’ odds-on favourite for the job.

O’Driscoll, second favourite, has also spoken to Oldham about the vacant position.

And, according to the Oldham Chronicle, O’Driscoll could step into an advisory role, with Dickov working alongside him.

Athletic drew up a new shortlist after missing out on Steve Evans, despite the ex-Leeds and Rotherham manager having agreed personal terms.

Dickov left Oldham in February 2013 before being appointed Doncaster manager in time for the 2013/14 season.

His Rovers team were relegated from the Championship and then finished 13th in League One, before he was sacked six league games into last season.

O’Driscoll has been out of work since parting company with Walsall in March.
