Five players - including captain James Coppinger - are coming to the end of their current deals.

While admitting he has come to a decision over his intentions for the quintet and other aspects of the make up of his squad, Ferguson says nothing has been rubber-stamped at this point.

And the Rovers boss reiterated that his full focus remains on guiding his side to a strong finish this term.

“We really want to finish the season as strongly as we can,” he told The Star.

“I’ve not had any conversations with any players about next season.

“I’ve not had any conversations with the board about next season.

“We just want to focus on this season and see how far up the league we can get.

“We’ve got seven tough games left and that’s it.

“It might even be a case of this season finishing and having talks after that which wouldn’t bother me at all because I’ve got to make sure that is the main focus.”

Coppinger, Andy Williams, Mathieu Baudry, Craig Alcock and Cedric Evina are all out-of-contract come the end of the season.

Ferguson fully expects to hold talks with the Rovers board on contracts before the end of this month.

When asked if players can change his mind over the remaining games of the campaign, Ferguson said: “I wouldn’t like to think so, no.

“I wouldn’t like to think there is going to be anything dramatic happens over this short period that would make me think twice about certain things.

“I know myself what my plans are for next season but the real focus is on this season.”

Rovers have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s trip to MK Dons.

Jordan Houghton is available after sitting out last weekend’s draw at Gillingham with a knee injury while Tom Anderson is fit following his recovery from a fractured cheekbone.
