Doncaster Rovers: Blank week '˜useful' for recharging batteries

The lack of midweek fixtures has come at an opportune moment for Doncaster Rovers.

That is the verdict of boss Grant McCann, who has been able to hand some of his players a much-needed lighter day on the training ground this week.

Since the opening week of the campaign, Rovers have had a match every Tuesday night.

But they will now not have another until October 2 when they visit Accrington Stanley.

And McCann admits that will be beneficial.

'Monday was a good day to do a bit of a light session with the lads who have played the majority of the games,' he told the Free Press.

'They still trained by the intensity of what they're used to.

'On Tuesday we worked hard.

'We had the Under 23s game at Grimsby that a lot of the boys played in.

'It was a good day.

'It's a good time to retune and recharge and get ready to go again against Walsall.

'The fixture list comes quite aggressively with what it throws at teams from the start.

'I think we've come out of quite well.

'We lost Ali Crawford for a lot of the period and now we've lost Tommy Rowe

'Apart from that, I think we're fine.'

Paul Taylor and Jermaine Anderson were both handed 90 minutes in Tuesday's 3-2 win for Rovers' U23s at Grimsby.

Neither man has played much senior football in 2018 and McCann is keen to get them up to speed.
