Doncaster Rovers to begin talks with trialists Vieira and Taylor

McCann says he hopes to confirm the signing of a forward and a midfielder in the coming days.

And he insists the addition of two new players will not close the door on further transfer business.

“We’ll know more in the next couple of days regarding the signings,” McCann told The Star.

“We need to sit down with the representatives of the two that we are bringing in and see where we go from there.

“We’re always looking.

“They will come in if they can improve us.”

Former Leeds midfielder Vieira played for Rovers U23s side in last night’s 3-1 defeat at Staveley Miners Welfare but was withdrawn with an ankle injury.

When speaking about the potential signing of the 20-year-old afterwards, McCann said: “In Romario’s case, he’s more of a development.

“I think he has been cast aside because of his brother at Leeds. I don’t mean that in a bad way to Leeds.

“We see huge potential in him if he is to be the one that is coming in.

“He’s a work in progress for us really.

“That is if we can agree personal terms.

“There’s no hiding behind the fact he has been with us, he’s in with the group.

“I feel as if there is a lot of development in him.

“Gary Monk speaks highly of him. Everyone at Leeds speaks highly of him, even though he didn’t have a lot of opportunities there.

“He’s a project for us. He’s someone who won’t walk into our first team right away, but he might surprise as few.”

On Taylor, McCann says the 30-year-old would be unlikely to be available for the start of the League One campaign this weekend but is rapidly improving his fitness while in training with Rovers.

And he believes he would be a good signing.

“You just have to look at he did last season at Bradford,” he said.

“He is probably still ten days away from being fit to where we would like him to be.

“But he’s been working hard with Rob [Lee] and the sport science team.

“I think you saw in the full 45 minutes against Sheffield United it was the best he’d been.

“He was drifting past Championship players like they weren’t even there.

“Again, Tayls is a bit away from being there but we’ve got six bodies at the top end of the pitch who can cause damage in this league.”

McCann insists plenty of opportunities are available to Rovers in the transfer market and he will continue to examine them all as long as the respective windows for permanent deals and loans remain open.

“If there’s somebody else I think can improve us, then we’ll do that as well,” he said.

“We’ll play it by ear.

“We know the window shuts but the loan window stays open and the free market one too.

“There’s plenty of maneouvring to be done and if there is someone better than what we’ve got, I’d be foolish not to do it.”
