Motorists have been warned that Thorne Road will once again be closed this weekend for more work on the newly installed railway bridge over the carriageway bewteen Clay Lane and Edenthorpe.

Drivers thought they had seen the last of delays and diversions, but Doncaster Council has said the road needs to close this Saturday and Sunday so work can be carried out.

A spokesman said: “Unfortunately we need to let you know about some more important works on the Thorne Road railway bridge near Sainsburys which needs a road closure this weekend.

"We need to install access steps and put signing on the bridge and to do this we need to close the road from 10pm this Saturday until 5pm on Sunday.

"Due to access and cabling problems during the installation of the bridge in late January, early February we were unable to complete all the works for the bridge installation.

"We will endeavour to reopen the road as soon as practically possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

"Due to the works requiring a crane and being subject to weather conditions we have booked a provisional road closure for March 6-7 if the works cannot be undertaken on the February 27-28 due to high winds. Footway access will be maintained under the bridge for the duration of the works.”

The long running saga has been ongoing since the summer of 2019 and has been hit by a string of delays and closures.
