A spokesman for Doncaster Council said: “It is hoped the road closures will cause minimum disruption to motorists.”

Speaking about the festival cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, Councillor Bill Mordue, said; “Cycling is becoming a really important sport in Doncaster, with a good number of local clubs, some fantastic local professional riders like Tom Stewart and Graham Briggs experiencing success, and events like Tour de Yorkshire and the Doncaster Cycle Festival emphasising our ability to host-world class sport.

“I look forward to all the racing action and hope the crowds enjoy it too.”

This is the third time the event will be held in the town.

The day will consist of eight races ranging from children under eight races through to the men’s elite race, plus many activities and exhibitors.
