“I want to give Ryan Wright and Brad England a run and I might have another look at Kieran Cross playing again at half-back,” he told The Star.

“With having so many players available it’s given me a selection headache this week and those players not involved probably won’t be best pleased.

“But certain players, including all four props, are playing that well that I can’t leave them out.”

“Hopefully the side I’ve picked will go there and come back with the points.

“It’s a nice wide pitch which will suit us – especially if it’s not too heavy.”

Wrexham-based Crusaders have made a mixed start to the 2017 campaign, winning away at York City Knights in the iPro Sports Cup on the opening day of the season but crashing out of the Challenge Cup and then conceding 50 points in their opening league game at Keighley last weekend.

“I saw footage of their win at York and they were excellent,” said Thornton.

“They’ve got some big players up front and hooker who likes to go from acting half-back and they’ve also got a couple of decent half-backs and a couple of decent centres, so they’ve got threats all over the park.

“This is their first home game of the season and I’m sure they’ll want to put on a show for their supporters and I’m expecting a pretty tough game .

“We’ll have to get our defensive structures in place and play with a lot of enthusiasm to get a result.”
