Fears that prop Zak Braham had broken his ankle were allayed following an X-ray but the club’s medical staff fear he may have ruptured an ankle ligament.

“Zac’s ankle is in a boot and he will probably be out for the next four to six weeks,” said head coach Gary Thornton.

“Brad Foster, whose shoulder popped out, won’t play again until he’s had a scan and the damage can be assessed. So he’s another one who may not play again this season.

“Leading try-scorer Jason Tali has a medial knee ligament injury which is likely to keep him out for four to six weeks.

“When you take into account that players such as Mike Kelly and Matty Nicholson have already been ruled out for the season and Jordie Hedges has two more games of his suspension remaining, we are down to the bare bones which is not a position you want to find yourselves in at the business end of the season.”

Better news for the club is that both Jordan Howden and forward Mason Tonks could both make a return to action at the South Leeds Stadium.

Tonks hasn’t played since breaking a leg earlier in the season but has resumed full training and play-maker Howden suffered a recurrence of a hip injury in the last month.

“It’s not an ideal situation and it may be they both need more time but I’ll see how they look in training tonight before making a decision,” said Thornton.
