Misson residents have formed a ‘community action group’ in response to plans by an onshore oil and gas producer to carry out exploratory drilling in a rural area of Doncaster.

As reported last week, IGas Plc have announced they intend to apply for planning permission to drill an exploratory fracking well in the Springs Road area of Misson Springs.

Around 50 people attended the inaugural meeting of the Misson Community Action Group last night, in response to the plans.

A spokesperson for the group said its purpose will be to ‘provide information, raise questions for IGas and the regulatory authorities, to provide a forum for discussion and to co-ordinate any action’.

They continued: “An overwhelming majority of the community in Misson have expressed concerns and voiced opposition regarding the prospect of a fracking site on the outskirts of the village 3 km from the village school and pre-school.”
