The Pride committee have also penned a letter of solidarity on their social media page this morning.

It reads: "The recent events in America have brought such fear and sadness back to our community.

Being gay is not something we should be ashamed of, nor something that should make us targets for hatred or terrorist attacks.

If you are afraid, if you need support then contact [email protected] we will help if we can.

Our community must come together to support each other. We at Doncaster Pride send our love and thoughts to not only the deceased but their families, friends and anyone across the world affected by this tragedy.

The LGBT movement has achieved so much. The simple acts of many, many people across the world brought us forward to today. Even every one of you, whether gay or not, that has supported Pride by attending our events has done your bit to stand in solidarity. Thank you.

We must remember the dead with great sadness but we must continue to be who we are and free of fear. Be proud to love.

We will remember those killed at Pride in August somehow but if anyone wants to suggest a suitable act now, a candle light this week perhaps then Doncaster Pride will make it happen."
