“It is reported that they are demanding on-the-spot fines from people not wearing masks.

“To be clear, only police officers can enforce the COVID legislation, there are no on-the-spot on fines, you should not hand any cash to anyone.”

People are asked to be aware of fraudsters and pass on details to police.

“A police officer will show you their ID card unless they are in uniform,” the police team added.

“If you have any concerns please contact us on 101.”
