Doncaster Phoenix make it 17 wins from 18

It was an afternoon of wet and windy conditions for both sides, with Phoenix proving themselves the better equipped for the challenge with a fine 27-7 win courtesy of a brace of tries from their front row.

Dinnington were ahead on ten minutes through a try from Paul Truman.

However, Phoenix soon asserted themselves on the game, going ahead via a Dan Porter try from full back and a penalty from stand off Jamie Lennard.

Prop Alex Keeton went over after the break with Lennard converting, before Tom Bagnall also at prop stretched Phoenix’s lead moments later.

The visitors never looked like relinquishing their lead in what was a doleful encounter heavily affected by the weather.

Phoenix are now 18 points clear at the top of the table as they go in search of back-to-back promotions.

They host Driffield on Saturday, while Wheatley Hills return to action at home to Northern.

Thornensians’ scheduled Yorkshire Three clash at Old Otliensians was postponed once again because of a waterlogged pitch, and will be moved once again to the next available Saturday.
