Ed Miliband and Caroline Flint have paid tribute to fellow Labour MP Jo Cox who has died after being stabbed and shot in the street earlier today.

MP for Batley and Spen Jo Cox, 41, was stabbed and shot in a shocking attack outside a library in Birstall, West Yorkshire at around 1pm today.

A 52-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Doncaster North MP Ed Miliband and Don Valley MP Caroline Flint have taken to social media to pay tribute to Mrs Cox, who leaves behind her husband Brendan and two young children.

Ms Flint said: "Heartbroken for Brendan & family. Jo gave so much & had so much more to give. Died doing her duty. #LabourFamily

Mr Miliband said: "My heart breaks for the loss of Jo Cox and for Brendan and their kids. She was so full of joy. Words feel hopeless right now.#
