Doncaster Lidl shopper sentenced for supermarket outburst

Colin William Miller, aged 47, was about to pay for his £25 worth of shopping at the branch off Sandford Road in Balby but lost his temper when he realised he only had £20.

When staff tried to deduct some of the items to help bring the total to £20 Williams became aggressive.

The court heard Miller, of Furnival Road, Balby, then threw a lump of concrete at the window during the incident on December 23.

Prosecuting Justin Bullas said: “He became abusive and aggressive towards staff and starting calling them all sorts of unpleasant names.

“He then tried to leave the store and picked up a lump of concrete and threw it at the window, fortunately for him it didn’t smash.”

The court heard Miller, who is unable to work because of a back problem, had been struggling with money after a mix up meant his benefits had been stopped,

Defending Andrew Bostock said Miller had been battling depression since the death of his father last year and his mental health problems had caused him to overreact in this situation.

Miller pleaded guilty to attempted criminal damage and using threatening and abusive behaviour. He was handed a ten week curfew and ordered to pay £145.
