Knights finished seventh in last season’s Championship.

They reached the promotion play-offs the previous two campaigns before the RFU scrapped the end of season competition last summer.

“Personally for me it’s obviously to try and lead this team to as a successful season as we can and play as much rugby as I can,” Hills told DKTV, on his aims for this season.

“It’s nothing short of top four for us as a team this year.

“I think all the players are on board with that.

“That’s what we’ll be aiming for.”

Clive Griffiths’ squad have been back in training at Castle Park for several weeks.

Their first run-out is at Sale Sharks on August 10 before home friendlies with Sale FC and Newcastle Falcons.

Knights start the new Championship season at Cornish Pirates on September 2.

“It’s been going brilliant,” said Hills on pre-season.

“It was important that we had a big start to the season.

“All the players realise that we underperformed last year but it’s about starting afresh.

“The boys have come back in great shape, the new lads have fitted in so well as they always do here, and we’re getting a great team bond and atmosphere straight from the word go.”

Doncaster-born Hills is embarking upon his sixth pre-season at Knights since returning to the club.
