Doncaster Knights: John hoping for Moseley call
WillGriff John is hoping he did enough in Sunday's top-of-the-table clash against Bristol to keep his place in the Doncaster Knights side to visit Moseley on Friday night.
The 23-year-old made a rare start for the high-flying Knights in Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash at Castle Park due to veteran Colin Quigley being ruled out with a shoulder injury.
“I was happy to get a start and I enjoyed the game and it was good to score another try – I scored in the recent win at London Scottish – but obviously disappointed with the result,” he said.
The Welshman, who impressed both in defence and with ball in hand, capped a hard-working display with a close-range try – his first in the league at Castle Park – just before the break to secure Knights an interval lead.
“We were confident that we’d go on to win the game in the dressing room at half-time,” he said.
“Griff (Clive Griffiths) and Kendo (Glen Kenworthy) and Cookie (Paul Cooke) gave us the info as to how to play the game in the second half and we got off to a good start with Declan Cusack kicking an early penalty.
“But instead of kicking on we found ourselves on the back foot for the next 20 minutes. Bristol are a good team with many good players and once we got a couple of scores up they had they knew they had to play an expansive game and we had to defend well.
“When we beat them before Christmas we scored a what I reckon were a couple of fairly easy tries from our driving maul but on Sunday they muscled up and they’d obviously done their homework.”
