Officers who were called to the scene on Saturday found damage to the ice cream van and railings outside Hexthorpe Primary Academy on Urban Road, Hexthorpe.

Officers posted the picture on social media, with the humourous comment: “Not quite sure how this happened. ‘Hundreds and thousands’ worth of damage caused to the van and railings.

On a more serious note, they added: “Thankfully nobody was hurt and the driver has passed a breath test.”

Members of the public added their own posts including: “He should carry a magnum for protection.”

Another added: “Looks like he took the cornetto fast!!”, another adding: “I think he did 99 pounds worth of damage and you should of put the cones around the van.”
