Doncaster heavyweight in for a title - but which one?

The Boxing Board of Control has ordered him to fight Norwich rival Sam Sexton, (W22 L3) for the English title.

Allen, (9, 0, 1) initially commented: “I have been waiting months for good news and now I have got it.

“The Board have ordered me against Sexton for the English title and therefore eliminator for the British heavyweight title to be contested between Hughie Fury and Dillian Whyte.”

However, some time later, Fury’s camp declared they will not take the fight.

So Allen, from Conisbrough, said he would happily step up to “fight anyone in Britain for the British title. It doesn’t matter who it is,”

Sexton, 31, was once a beaten contender for both the British and Commonwealth titles. He has won his last seven fights and would be a decent test for the 24 year old South Yorkshireman. But whoever Allen’s next opponent is, it is clear that his star is rising.

* Jessie Vargas, the American WBO welterweight champ is wary of judging at any match-up with Kell Brook in Sheffield and has asked for assurances of fairness.

The event is likely to go ahead at Bramall Lane on August 20.
