On Wednesday January 13, 2016, the free event at Doncaster Racecourse will help to outline how local communities can get involved in the Tour de Yorkshire, including information about how the event has benefitted previous hosts.

The roadshow, hosted by Welcome to Yorkshire, is open for all residents to book a place and will be attended by representatives from local schools and parish councils, community groups and Doncaster councillors.

Hosting a finishing leg of the Tour de Yorkshire, and the inaugural women’s race, is a fantastic opportunity for Doncaster, both for the businesses that can capitalise on the influx of visitors, and for local communities to showcase the borough on a truly global stage.

Welcome to Yorkshire will use the roadshow meeting to outline some of the logistics of the event, detailing how they manage necessary road closures with local authorities, and will also use past examples from other host locations to emphasise the range of ways communities can get involved.

Cabinet member for Leisure and Tourism, Councillor Bill Mordue, said: “From knitting bunting to painting bikes, residents in previous host towns have really got into the spirit of the Tour de Yorkshire, and I’m confident that Doncaster will be the same.

“This roadshow is a great opportunity for local people to find out more about the fantastic opportunities available during the Tour de Yorkshire, and hear helpful advice on how to make Saturday 30 April one of the best days of 2016.”
