Doncaster Frozen food store granted licence to serve alcohol

A Doncaster frozen food store has been given permission to sell alcohol.

Shoppers will soon find booze on the shelves at Fulton Foods, Church Street, Armthorpe, after owners Frozen Value Ltd were granted a licence to sell drinks for off-site consumption by Doncaster Council’s licensing committee.

The licence was granted, despite opposition from a local pub.

Colin Waggot, of the nearby Wheatsheaf, wrote a letter expressing his concern to the committee.

He said: “There are more than enough shops selling alcohol. There are far too many people drinking in the street causing public nuisance as it is and this will add to it.”

However, Frozen Value’s solicitor Richard Taylor argued Mr Waggot’s views were a matter of opinion and were not backed up by any evidence. He added: “The police have no concerns about this application.”

To meet with licensing requirements, which include the prevention of crime and disorder and public safety, the company said they will install a CCTV system at the store and give footage to police officers if requested. A challenge 21 scheme will be operated and staff will be trained once every three months.

The shop must keep to conditions including that alcohol cannot be served past 10pm.
