A Doncaster family has issued an emotional plea to locals to help them get their sick father back to South Yorkshire.

A Doncaster family has issued an emotional plea to locals to help them get their sick father back to South Yorkshire.

Thomas Northern, known to many as Peter, is lying ill in a Thai hospital with lung cancer, and his family aims to raise a significant amount of money to get him home.

Mr Northern, 58, moved to Bangkok in 2009 to chase work.

The former miner went to hospital to complain of a back issue, and doctors discovered the lung condition during tests.

His blood pressure is dropping, and news of a high fever isn't good for the family. Ex-partner Valerie Glanvill and daughter Lauren have booked a flight to Thailand to see him.

Ms Glanvill has kept constant contact with Thomas during the ordeal, but hasn't spoken to him since last week.

She and Miss Northern and son Joe Northern, are becoming increasingly concerned about Mr Northern's health.

Miss Northern, who hasn't seen her father since he left the country, has started a crowd funding page to get him home.

They aim to raise £9,000 to cover costs of medical bills and his transport back to England.

Ms Glanvill, 58, urged people to dig deep and get Mr Northern home.

"He has nobody over there really to help him," the Park Lane, Bessacarr woman said.

"He has some friends, but I think they're really only acquaintances. He speaks only a little bit of Thai."

Miss Northern said bringing her father back to Doncaster would be a 'mini miracle'.

She said that seeing him again might be a shock.

"I'm worried that it might be a bit upsetting," Miss Northern, 21, said.

"I have this vision of him in my head, and he might not look like that anymore.

"I know he's been ill."

She had begun to think that she might not see her father again.

Lauren had dreaded the thought of her father missing her wedding.

"Because you want your dad to walk you down the aisle when you get married," she said.

Ms Glanvill urged people to dig deep and donate to get their beloved family member home.

"He's a really nice guy," she said.

"He's been a great dad to two kids."

The ordeal has come at an awful time for Joe, who is sitting his A Levels at Hall Cross Academy.

"He's very worried about him," she said.
