Dad Mark Midgley was in good company at the start line of Sunday’s race - as he was joined by four of his sons.

He was alongside Jay, aged 31, Daniel, aged 29, Kyle, aged 26, and Taylor, aged 23 - and the five strong team are hoping to have smashed into the Guinness Book of World Records by claiming the title of fastest marathon run by a parent and four children.

Mark, aged 50, said: “There currently isn’t a world record for it so we would be setting a new one. We have sent off the documents so we are just waiting to hear back.

“It was an amazing day. The crowd was unbelievable and they really help you along in the last few miles when you have aching legs.”

The Wheatley father-of-seven has tackled the famous London course a few years ago - but this was the first time they have tackled the 26 mile and 385 yard route as one.

They have so far raised £6500 towards their £7200 target for the Royal British Legion - a charity which is especially close to all of their hearts.

Mark said: “All of my sons who took part have served in the armed forces. The charity does fantastic work and they deserve all the help they can get.”

Jay was in the Royal Engineers, Daniel served with the Royal Logistics Corp, Kyle was in the Royal Marines and Taylor was in the Royal Air Force.

Three of the group - Kyle, Taylor and Daniel - finished in about 4hrs 35mins, with Mark and Jay coming in a little later in a time of around 4hrs 43mins.
