Officers found 12.5kg of drugs as well as two food processors, mixing bowls and latex gloves, which had been used by the gang to bag up drugs.

Michael Gaskin, aged 29, of Doncaster Road, Conisborough; Earl Treasure, 36, of HMP Marshgate; Jamal Richards 26, of Wensley Street, Grimesthorpe; Andrew Waterhouse, 25, of Carr House Road, Hyde Park, Doncaster; and Adrian Powell, 34, of Bradford were sentenced to 35 and a half years for conspiracy at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday.

Another man, Frank Lloyd, of Darlington, was jailed for six months for taking £25,000 cash from Gaskin and agreeing to transport it. He refused to say where he was going but said he did not know it was drug money.

Treasure had been placed under police observation after officers learned of his role in an earlier drugs transaction.

Treasure was stopped and arrested by officers, who recovered one kilogram of cocaine and half a kilogram of heroin from his car.

‘Bundles of cash’ worth £68,000 were also found at the house Treasure shared with his girlfriend, as well as a key to the house on Steven Crescent.

Gaskin and Treasure were seen together on multiple occasions and the court heard Gaskin handled the Doncaster end of the drugs ring, while Treasure was based in Sheffield.

Richards was arrested in December 2014 in Sheffield, after being observed leaving the Steven Crescent drugs den with a bag. Six kilograms of heroin were later seized by police.

Examination of Richards’ phone records showed contact between him, Gaskin and Treasure in the days prior to his arrest.

Detective Sergeant Tony Slater from the serious and organised crime unit said: “This has been a complex and protected inquiry, which pulled together several separate investigations into drugs supply in South Yorkshire.

“Drugs are responsible for so much devastation and increased criminality within our communities, so I am pleased that this group are off our streets and can do no further harm.

“Our work to bring to justice those who supply drugs in our communities will continue unabated and I hope that this case highlights that we will leave no stone unturned to identify those responsible for these crimes.”

Judge Robert Moore, sentencing, said: “For your own reasons you all got yourself involved in some pretty heavy drugs trafficking.”

He added that Gaskin and Treasure had played a ‘leading role’ and Powell’s part had also been ‘significant’.

Treasure was jailed for 10 years, Gaskin for eight-and-a-half years while Richards was sent to prison for seven years.

Waterhouse was sentenced to six years in prison and Powell was given four years.
