The Ice Caps were due to re-open on Saturday morning after being shut to customers since March because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But just hours before skaters were due to return, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the UK’s skating rinks, bowling alleys, casinos and other leisure facilities would have to stay closed over fears of a rise in coronavirus cases across England.

Bosses at The Dome have now updated customers on the Ice Caps.

In a message, a statement said: “We emailed you all to share our excitement at the re-opening of The Ice Caps on August 1.

“In response to the Government’s latest update, we are disappointed that the reopening of ice rinks has now been postponed but we will always follow advice on the reopening of our facilities.

“Since the announcement that we could reopen, our teams have been working hard to prepare our venues and ensure that they respect the measures in place to operate safely.

We would like to thank you all for your continued support and patience and we will send a further update when we have confirmation on any specific reopening dates as and when they are announced by the Government.”
