Doncaster cricket round-up: Conisbrough brushed aside by leaders on rain-hit weekend

Conisbrough were put firmly in their place by South Yorkshire League Championship leaders Hallam on a rain-affected weekend of action.

While the majority of games in the area failed to reach a conclusion, the rain did not come soon enough to save the St Peter’s Drive club who crashed to a comprehensive nine wicket defeat.

Hallam’s long-standing ace Humphrey Emery was in devastating form as he ripped through Conisbrough’s top order, middle order and lower order to capture incredible figures of 9-35.

Five batsmen were dismissed for ducks and only one of his victims managed double figures.

The only wicket he could not capture was that of Sri Lankan Arosh Janoda who showed his teammates the way as he smashed his way to 58 from 38 balls, including a boundary count of five fours and five sixes.

Conisbrough were all out for just 87.

In reply Hallam were in no mood to hang around. They lost one wicket, that of Will Hale (26), and used up just 10.5 overs to record their latest win and move 23 points clear at the summit.

Skipper Nick Dymock hit a classy 51 not out, including nine fours and a six.

Tickhill’s impressive recent form was halted by the weather at Darfield.

The hosts batted first and set a target of 235-5.

Haider Jahangir produced his best form of the season with an excellent 92, Luke Ogden scored 30, Waqas Maqsood reached 47 and Lesroy Weekes was 35 not out at the close.

Tickhill were on 19-0 when the game was eventually abandoned.

Division One promotion chasers Sprotbrough were also thwarted by the weather.

Their match at Loundside was abandoned after several showers and a prolonged thunderstorm with Thorncliffe on 68-4.

There was a shock result at Alderson Drive as one of the Division Two pacesetters Tickhill B were well beaten by struggling Elsecar B.

The visitors batted first and their innings of 219-3 featured an excellent century by opener Chris Pedler, who batted through for 116 not out.

In reply Tickhill were shot out for 118. Wicketkeeper James Doyle top scored with 30.

In Division Three East, high flying Mexborough went down by seven wickets at home to Whiston Forge, while Doncaster Town B beat Conisbrough B by 31 runs.

n Askern Welfare found form with the bat to beat local rivals Hatfield Town by 142 runs in Division One of the Pontefract League.

Andrew O’Grady (46), Aaron Gillies (68) and Andrew Lunn (60) raised Askern’s total to 265-6.

David Longley took 5-18 and Sachira Madapatha 3-30 as Hatfield mustered 123 all out in reply.

Rossington Main are five points clear at the top of Division Two following a five wicket win at home to Notton.

Pete Mawdsley (61) and Joel Evans (52no) top scored as Main chased down Notton’s total of 172.

n Doncaster Town’s Yorkshire South Premier League trip to Sheffield Collegiate was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Luke Townsend’s men host Treeton on Saturday.
