Bill and Elsie Turnbull, of Tickhill, had arranged to join a 20-strong group of people living with dementia and their carers for a fish and chip lunch organised by DonMentia at Fish Bits restaurant on Carr House Road, Hyde Park.

But when DonMentia founder Eileen Harrington found out it coincided with their 62nd wedding anniversary, she pulled out all the stops to ensure the couple were treated like royalty on their special day.

Thanks to big-hearted staff at The Co-op Funeral Care, the couple were collected by limousine driver Nicholas Craven who presented them with flowers and chocolates before escorting them to the restaurant, where their table had been decorated with balloons, confetti and flowers along with a special anniversary cake.

Mr Turnbull said: “This was a real treat. Elsie and I would like to pay tribute to Eileen and everyone else involved for their kindness.”
