The report seen by councillors focuses on the first quarter of the financial and performance position towards the 2018/19 budget.

Despite overspending by £3.6 million, council bosses have said quarter 1 has 'got off to a good start' with the 'majority of performance measures reported on track'.

Council spend with Doncaster businesses is 'stable and is on target' at 73 per cent at the end of quarter 1. This equates to £28m being spent with borough suppliers out of £38.3m revenue expenditure.

The overspend in children services carried out by Doncaster Children's Services Trust is highlighted again for councillors. Documents show this is the biggest budget pressure at £5.2 million on a budget of £45 million.

The council and the Trust are said to be working together in order to bring this down.

Reports show £700,000 was over spent in the adult social care budget. Bosses put this down to 'additional costs of placements in care and shortfall in some savings targets'.

But the local authority found savings of £2.1 million from 'other council-wide budgets' and £700,000 from corporate resources, namely from staffing budgets.

Cabinet members will discuss the financial report at a meeting on Tuesday, September 4.
