Council Joe, whose real name is Michael Mulligan, will don a hi-visibility jacket and flat cap to crack gags on tonight's episode of the hit ITV talent show.

The community worker will be hoping to get the seal of approval from judges Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden when he joins a list of other hopefuls on the show which will be aired at 8pm.

The auditions were recorded earlier this year with hopefuls bidding for a place in the live shows and the ultimate prize of winning the TV talent show and performing at the Royal Variety Performance.

A show spokesman said: "He is hoping that his stand-up act will win over the judges."

Last month, legendary Doncaster upside down piano player Colin "Fingers" Henry was given four yes votes on the show to progress in the programme.

The comedy pianist, 68, from Barnby Dun left judges open mouthed as he performed his trademark routine of playing the piano standing on his head which he has honed in pubs and clubs and on cruise ships for the last fifty years.

Bookmakers Boyle Sports have priced Colin at 100-1 to win the show.
