West End Clinic GP surgery in Rossington was previously branded ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission in July 2016 after concerns were raised over safety and management. It was subsequently placed in special measures.

But now the practice has been praised by inspectors after bosses implementedtough measures and recommendations given by the CQC after itslatest probe into standards. Inspectors rated the surgery’s safety, management, effectiveness, responsiveness and care as ‘good’.

Patients said they ‘found it easy to make an appointment with a named GP’ and there was ‘continuity of care’, with urgent appointments available the same day. Service users said they were treated with ‘compassion, dignity and respect’ and were involved in their care and decisions about their treatment.

Information about services and how to complain was ‘available and easy to understand’. Improvements were made to the quality of care as a result of individual complaints and concerns.

Staff assessed patients’ needs and delivered care ‘in line with current guidance’. Staff had also been trained to ‘provide them with the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver effective care and treatment’.

Alison Holbourn, CQC’s Deputy Chief Inspector of General Practice, said: “At an inspection in July 2016 we did not believe that West End Clinic was likely to resolve its challenges without being placed into special measures.

“The practice was previously rated as inadequate, and the care being provided was not well-led or safe.

“Since this inspection, we have seen significant improvements in the level of care being provided.

“We now see a practice that has an open and transparent approach to safety, and is delivering care in line with current evidence based guidance.

“The improvements that the provider has made are impressive.”
