Denton & Nickels, a Doncaster-based construction services company, are hosting a nostalgic five-a-side Euro ‘96 match to help raise money for The Children’s Hospital Charity in Sheffield.

The February 29 match at Goals Doncaster will feature 16 teams representing the original Euro ’96 line-up and will follow the format of the UEFA European Championships.

Brian O’Sullivan, marketing manager at Denton & Nickels, said: “It is a chance for the teams to rewrite history, relive some of the magic of the tournament and have some fun – all while raising money for this great charity. Let’s go back to 1996 and relive the moments of Gazza vs Scotland, David Seaman’s lovely multi-coloured top and Uri Geller putting off McAllister for his penalty.”

Money raised through the tournament will go to The Children’s Hospital Charity’s Make it Better appeal, which urgently needs funds to build a brand new wing at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

The redevelopment will feature a spacious new outpatients department, three wards with mostly private rooms, landscaped outdoor areas and space for children to play.

Emma Dove, corporate fundraiser at the charity, said: “This is such a fun and innovative idea to raise money, and we hope as many people as possible join in and help make the event a success.

“Denton & Nickels have provided fantastic support for our charity over the last 12 months, and every penny they raise will help ensure the new wing, currently being built, will be the best it can be.

“Our charity raises funds to go above and beyond the NHS provision, so this support means we can provide world-class facilities for our children to match the existing world-class care delivered on the wards.”

The tournament is open to the first 16 teams to register and pay via Goals Doncaster.

They can do so by ringing 01302 965 220 or by visitng www.goalsfootball.co.uk/tournaments.

The cost is £60 per team, to cover venue, referees, trophies and medals and a £20 charity donation per team.
