Doncaster beats Leeds, Sheffield and York to win Yorkshire World Cup on Twitter
The Yorkshire World Cup aimed to find the region’s top spot – through a series of votes played out in the format of a football World Cup.
And Doncaster eventually emerged victorious after seeing off the likes of bigger city rivals such as Leeds, Sheffield and York in the fun contest organised by Twitter user James Marshall.

Hide AdDoncaster scored a surprise victory in the final, taking more than 66 per cent of the vote against historic tourist spot York.
Doncaster secured its place in the final after easily seeing off West Yorkshire rival Leeds, while York made the final two by defeating Harrogate.
Earlier in the competition, Doncaster topped ‘Group A’ finishing ahead of Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham to be crowned South Yorkshire number one.
Harrogate emerged victorious from a group that also contained Wakefield, Castleford, Pontefract and Harrogate while Leeds secured its place in the last four by finishing ahead of Hallifax, Bradford and Huddersfield.

Hide AdYork easily won its group, which also included Hull and the seaside resorts of Whitby and Scarborough.
