The Avengers star booted the Ziggy Stardust icon out of her London home at the height of his fame - for making too much noise.

The star, who died at the age of 69 yesterday after a secret 18 month battle against cancer, lived in the actress's Maida Vale flat for six months in 1973.

Forced to leave Beckenham by fans making pilgrimages to his front door, the star moved into Bond actress Rigg’s flat in Vale Court with his then wife, Angie, and their son.

The family lived in the flat for six months until Rigg kicked them out for making too much noise. A short spell in Chelsea followed before Bowie moved away from the UK, to America and Berlin, never returning to live full time in London again.

Rigg was born in Doncaster in 1938 but spent her childhood growing up in India.

Bowie also has Doncaster connections - his dad Haywood Stenton Jones was born in St Sepulchre Gate in 1912 in the premises now occupied by the Caffe Nero coffee shop.

The singer also played two concerts at the Top Rank Suite in Silver Street in 1972-73.
