The plans for an extension to the West Moor Park Distribution, south of Holme Wood Lane Armthorpe were given the green light by Doncaster Council’s planning department on Tuesday.

The decision also means a further 528 jobs will be secured at the existing Next facilities on the site.

The report discussed at the meeting said: “The development would represent significant investment from a major company, resulting in over 500 new jobs at the new warehouse, as well as securing 528 jobs at the existing Next facilities.”

The news comes after retail giant Next was given the go ahead to open a new warehouse facility which will include a sofa manufacturing factory in Armthorpe at the site.

The new 600,000 sq ft factory will be next to the company’s warehouse and is set to open in August.

Dan Fell, CEO at the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce said: “Next is a major employer in the area and it’s very positive that even more jobs are in the pipeline.

“This reaffirms that Doncaster is a national hub for warehousing and logistics with more large businesses being attracted to the area as a result of the town’s excellent infrastructure.”

Concerns were raised about the increase in traffic and noise associated with the construction of the extension.

But the plan was approved subject to a Section 106 agreement that requires developers to fund the costs of making any road improvements at the site.

The units will be accessed from a new road which is an extension of Yorkshire Way to the north of the site.

The site lies between the edge of the residential area in Armthorpe and the M18 motorway just south of Junction 4.

The news comes just weeks after a number of other major developments in Doncaster were rubber stamped paving the way for new jobs.

A new state-of-the-art trampoline park, a supermarket and drive-thru restaurant are amongst the plans set to create hundreds of jobs.

Plans include a £500,000 trampoline park expected to create up to 200 jobs. Hundreds more jobs are set to be created thanks to a supermarket, retail unit and drive-thru restaurant development at a business park in Thorne.
